ACCELERATION TRAINING
NEURAL SWIMMIMG TECHNIQUE
200m - 400m Events...
A swimmer who competes in a 200m event lasting around the 2 minute mark+-, will experience a highlevel of +H ion accumulation, as well as decreased levels ofphosphocreatine and some changes in ATP levels etc.
For this reason it is important that the swimmer consistantly experience this type of stress in order that appropriate adaptations can occur that will allow their body to recover quickly from this particular stress. For the most part, when discussing the competing swimmer, we aretalking about the anaerobic capacity of the individual.
Adaptations that will accompany acceleration training that will
enhance the anaerobic capacity include the increase in the ATPstores in the muscles along with increases in glycogen and phosphocreatine. In addition, it is probable that when the body is stressed, during training, to the level that it would experience in a race, the ability to remove and buffer Hydrogen ions that are generated in the working muscles will increase.
Training to enhance the anaerobic capacity, therefore, must involve intense acceleration swims.
